The Homespun Quilters Guild has adopted a Community Outreach Service Project for the fiscal year 05-06. This is an ongoing project with many facets allowing everyone with a desire, to participate.
This year’s project will be Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. On a daily basis there are around 200 military men and women in the burn unit at Brooke. These patients at Brooke are there for weeks and even months of recovery, and surgery. Often family members are given a few hours notice of their loved ones arrival, and arrive with only the bare essentials in the suitcases. After arriving at the hospital they stay in guests houses at night and sit at the hospital during the day. Hospitals by temperature are cold, making the waiting even more difficult. Our goal is to provide every family with a quilt to warm them. Quilts, stitched in love, to wrap them in hugs during their hospital stay. The gift of a quilt is a small thank you for their sacrifices.
To help with the project you can make complete quilts or just quilt tops. We have several machine quilters offering to quilt the tops. Please make your top of 100% cotton fabric, with dimensions of approximately 54”x70”. If you would like to show your support in other ways, or if you have any questions, please contact the community outreach chairman.
