How to Make a Hanging Sleeve

Prepare a piece of fabric 9" wide and as long as your quilt or hanging is wide. If seams are necessary, flat fell them or at least turn to one side and stitch down flat. Run a narrow hem at each end. Sew into a tube, using a 1/4" seam. Turn and press with seam at bottom and a good crease at the top. Now roll the tube down from the top so that you can press another crease 1" below the top one.

To attach a sleeve to quilt: Position sleeve so that the top crease is just at the inside edge of the binding along the top of the quilt. (second crease will be on under side of the sleeve). Sew along the bottom of sleeve (seam edge) with long stitches that go through the sleeve and backing but not through the top of the quilt. Fasten securely at the ends. Now roll the sleeve down to the second crease and sew along the top. Smaller quilts can be hung with narrower sleeves.
